HOW MANY times can you FREEZE A STEAK?

  • Today was a very important experiment for me. I need to find out how many times I can freeze a steak before it's bad! I like to save money so I always buy steaks in bulk and freeze them, sometimes I let the steak defrost and end up not cooking that day, can we re-freeze it and if so how many times can it be done? Today we find out!

    Important! NEVER...NEVER let your steak get to ROOM TEMP! I cover this in the end of the video. But, if you don't watch until the end you will miss important information. Steaks must ALWAYS REMAIN in the refrigerator, IF NOT you encourage bacteria growth specially if steaks are at room temp. Love you guys!

      Because it's not the bacteria that makes people sick it's actually the bacteria's faeces that make people sick. High count of bacteria = High amount of faeces. Which means you are cooking steak with a lot of poo in it that will make you sick.

      Incluso en el refrigerador pueden proliferar bacterias. Usted lo hace con mucho cuidado, sí, pero debería recomendar solo congelar una vez ya que la mayoría de las personas no van a tener el cuidado que usted tiene y aún así, no es nada recomendable.     Is it ok to take it out of the fridge and let it defrost in air over the day? That's what I do with all my meat at home. Straight into the freezer from the shops, then taken out the night before or early in the day and slowly unfrozen till it's cooking time.

          Great information. Really helpful to know cause we've all been in the situation that something comes up when you've been planning a meal and now what do you do with it. If it's steak, then now we know we can just refreeze it at least one more time for a total of 2. Thanks!

                                          One point confuses me. What happened to the first steak after you froze it and then thawed it while the others were going through the several week process of the additional freezings? Did it just sit in the refrigerator? That extra aging would play a role in why it looked similar to the others at the end.

                                                I don't like how he leads the tasters and gives his opinion before he asks them for theirs. Unreliable experiment procedures. I know you like to banter for the sake of content, but maybe if you went into the tests blind yourself, you wouldn't be swaying the results. You could have someone off-camera randomize the steaks and reveal to all the tasters including yourself at the end, at least.

                                                      Is the result really about repetitive freezing or more about the time spent in the refrigerator vs. freezer? The 4 x frozen steak has spent a lot more time in higher temperature than the others, I presume. To conduct this experiment correctly, you would need to unfreeze the steaks in the correct order before cooking, starting with steak 1, then 2 etc.
                                                      Also you definitively have to do stuff like this double-blinded.

                                                              Health guidelines in Europe (the best ones, as you can infer by the higher average life expectancy) advise to ALWAYS AVOID refreezing something. After you unfreeze something you gotta consume it, period.

                                                                Seriously, I wanna eat that, NO, I must eat that. (Not only because I hate when food is wasted for experiments) I love a good steak, I adore it. But sadly in my country finding one, is quite hard. And when you are talking about these sizes, man, you can almost buy a freaking home here. I just don't get why this is so cheap in America, yet so expensive in the Netherlands. I am so hungry now xD

                                                                        First time viewer, great video. I've re-frozen steaks a few times but only one re-freeze. It's great to know what happens, I thought it would have had more of a freezer burn taste. IMHO I think that wild game doesn't fare as well because of lower fat content.Nice channel, I just subscribed...thanks!!

                                                                                    I only freeze it once. Any more since you're allowing it to thaw is just dangerous. You also just risk ruining the meat as well .

                                                                                            I love buying the rib loin and slicing my own steaks. The rib cap is my favorite part of beef.
