I think the Kessel run is about acceleration meaning that the millenium falcon got to a specific speed in 13 parsecs

I knew it the whole time but Cimemawins it's great that people know that palpatine ordered them to miss on the deathstar because he wanted to find the hidden base. Most of the people think they miss because they suck but in reality they have great aim

@Dade Lee Murphy Also, per wikipedia "The film was originally released in 1977 with the title Star Wars. The subtitle Episode IV – A New Hope was only added to the opening crawl in subsequent re-releases.[96][17] Official sources state that the change was made at the theatrical re-release of April 10, 1981,[97][98][a] but the subtitle was first introduced in the 1979 book The Art of Star Wars.[99]"

@Dade Lee Murphy Wow, man. Even I'm not so angered by giving the first movie an updated title, and I'm firmly in the "Han shot first" camp.

When Luke is "flying" the little model T-16 around, the full-sized version (at least the back end with the engine exhaust) can be seen in the background; it's the big triangular-shaped object through the doorway behind C-3PO

To me the best version of the 'explaining hyperspace travel to 'fix' the parsecs thing' came from the X-Wing novels where they go into a lot of detail about that sort of thing. They explain that hyperspace travel is always a straight line point A to B. You want to chart those lines close to star systems and such so you've got a place to go in an emergency but anything that makes a gravity well is gonna fuck with your navigation (Han mentions this in ANH with his 'fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova' line). Larger, faster ships have the mass and/or momentum to resist these tugs of gravity so they can fly shorter courses.

In the old EU novels the 'Kessel Run' was a smuggler's route to avoid patrols that went around a cluster of black holes called The Maw. They were well charted but highly dangerous and most smugglers had ships just one side of the scrap yard so they had to be a little careful. The Falcon had its super juiced hyperdrive, a daredevil pilot, and (as we learn in Solo) a truly unique navigation computer so they shaved distance off the run, could complete it faster, and made more money and bragging rights.
All that being said I also like CinemaWins's take on it that Han was testing the waters to run a game on Ben and Luke. Han's a scoundrel. He's always gonna be looking for the angle.

Love Cinema Wins but ObiWan was not an octogenarian when he fought Vader on the Death Star. He was only 16 years older than Anakin so would only have been in his 50s. Just sayin'

One thing. Alderaan wasn't a peaceful planet, but the main base of the rebels, with an enormous fleet hidden inside.
And another, Tarkin was one of the few people who knew, that Vader is/was Anakin, and also that the Emperor is a Sith Lord, but he said, Vader/Anakin was the last jedi, not the last force user. Sidious was never a jedi.

Um, can I just say, the Jawa vehicle wasn't a miniature.

The scenes with the Sandcrawler were shot at the Libya-Tunisia border, and Libya mistook it for a military vehicle, so Tunisia asked Lucas to move the filming locations further into the country.
